How Storytelling Changed Perception 🚀

I once advised a startup serving SMBs like salons and parlours. Their original pitch was straightforward:

💡 “We offer marketing services as a product for $200/month, making it affordable for small businesses that can’t pay $500–$1000/month to agencies. We have high margins and strong growth due to our low-cost structure (product first focus and operating out of India).”

Sounds decent for sure. But then, they reframed their story:

📢 “Our customers see us as a one-stop solution. Instead of juggling multiple tools like Wix, Squarespace, Yelp, Groupon, Mailchimp etc, they now rely solely on us. We’re not just a marketing service—we’re disrupting three industries: website builders, marketplaces, and email/SMS marketing tools”

Same product. Different story. But this new narrative changed how investors saw them.

🔹 Instead of a small marketing service, they became industry disruptors.


🔹 Instead of competing on price, they were replacing multiple tools.


🔹 Instead of just good margins, they had a massive market opportunity.

This is the power of great storytelling. A good story doesn’t change what you do—it changes how people see what you do.
